What You'll Do
As a PostgreSQL DBA at MNJ SOFTWARE, your daily responsibilities will revolve around independently administering large-scale databases and managing the entire database lifecycle.
- Manage the entire database lifecycle, including creating and managing schemas, tables, tablespaces, users, roles, and groups.
- Generate and explain execution plans for SQL queries to identify bottlenecks, optimize indexing, and implement table partitioning.
- Take full ownership of backup and recovery strategies by setting up WAL archiving, managing Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR), and utilizing tools like Pg dump.
- Configure and manage High Availability (HA) setups, handling streaming replication and replication failovers using Repmgr, Barman, PG bouncer, and PG pathman.
- Perform routine hands-on maintenance operations such as vacuum, vacuum full, and analyze.
- Monitor alert logs and scheduled jobs to ensure system reliability and high performance.
- Execute hardware capacity planning by forecasting requirements for storage, memory, and CPU cycles based on system loads.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with technical leads, testers, product managers, and designers to ensure reliable system integration.
- Work flexible 9-hour shift schedules between 6 AM – 10 PM IST or 6 PM – 6 AM IST (Monday through Friday), with occasional unpaid overtime based on business needs.

What You Need (Requirements)
To qualify for this position, you must possess a strong academic background and deep expertise in core database fundamentals and administration.
- Hold a relevant academic degree such as an ME, M.TECH, BE, B.TECH, MCA, or M.Sc(IT).
- Have 3 to 6 years of proven experience working as a PostgreSQL DBA.
- Possess expert knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture, system catalogs, index management, and performance tuning.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of database fundamentals, including Multi-version Concurrency Control (MVCC), transactions, and locking mechanisms.
- Show deep expertise in backup and High Availability technologies, specifically Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR), WAL archiving, streaming replication, and replication failover.
- Have hands-on practical experience with PostgreSQL tooling, including PG Admin, Repmgr, Barman, PG bouncer, and PG pathman.
- Exhibit a strong understanding of UNIX environments, coupled with the ability to write robust Shell Scripts for automation.
- Display strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities as an independent thinker.
- Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, effective planning, and mandatory fluency in oral and written English.
